Innovations in biomass from planning to farm-gate
Innovators are central to the successful upscale of sustainable biomass production in the UK – and they are rising to the challenge.
Awarded a share of £32 million by the government-funded Biomass Feedstocks Innovation (BFI) programme, 12 innovation projects including Biomass Connect as a demonstration and information platform, are designing, developing and delivering new innovations, enabling the upscaling of the net zero-critical biomass sector.
Spanning the breadth of the biomass supply chain, the projects are positioned to individually and collaboratively pioneer commercially viable technologies, techniques and tools in biomass production – from seed to end market and method to machine. Innovations range from genomic selection, and autonomous robotics to aeroponics, pelletisation technology, decision-making tools, natural resource utilisation, artificial seed technology and more.
