Growing Perennial Biomass Crops in Wales: Benefits and Impacts
October 11, 2023 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm
Wednesday 11th October, 09:00 – 12:00 (followed by complimentary lunch)
National Botanic Garden of Wales, Llanarthne, Carmarthenshire, SA32 8HG
Miscanthus and willow can diversify farm incomes and improve carbon storage, flood mitigation, and biodiversity in certain settings. Recommendations to increase biomass planting to meet UK carbon targets have implications for farmers. This workshop will provide information about the benefits and impacts of these crops to farmers and stakeholders. The workshop will present and seek feedback on:
- The latest scientific evidence about the benefits and impacts of these crops
- Local examples showing where best to grow these crops to optimise benefits and minimise impacts
- Estimates of potential crop yields and income
- Landscape visualisations of these crops in the local area
Share your views and feed into policy development for perennial biomass crops. The workshop is free, and there is an offer of a £50 gift voucher to local farmers attending.
