University of Southampton - Bioenergy
University of Southampton
Bioenergy research at Southampton brings together civil engineers, bioscientists, process and chemical engineers, and the National Oceanography Centre, representing a wide range of expertise to provide fundamental and applied science solutions to bioenergy problems. The group is internationally recognised for its work on the genetics of lignocellulosics feedstocks, particularly using the latest genomic and post-genomic technologies to develop improved woody second generation crops. We have a long track record in anaerobic digestion, both as a means of stabilising wastes and for production of renewable energy from agricultural crops and residues. We are also leading on sustainability research including impacts of second generation crops on the environment and ecosystem services and life cycle analysis approaches to assess the carbon costs of bioenergy chains.University of Southampton
